Presidents’ To-Do List Nov 2013

  • Great things going on at both Issaquah and Newcastle, thanks for sharing with everyone at Council
  • Still looking for the Bulk Mail Stamp
  • Send out the Marijuana Brochure (attached to email). On Monday, December 2, the Drug Free Community Coalition in partnership with seven community organizations will present a “Legal Marijuana and Our Teens” Forum at Sammamish City Hall Council Chambers, 801 – 228th Avenue SE in Sammamish.  The program will begin at 6:30 p.m. with an open house and presentation of an excellent Marijuana and Teens video produced by Mercer Island Communities that Care.  At 7:00, a teen panel of Sammamish area teens will start the Forum with comments about the video and about marijuana legalization.  At approximately 7:30 p.m., Sammamish Police Chief Nathan Elledge and Lakeside-Milam counselor (and Drug Free Community Coalition member) Jerry Blackburn will field questions from the audience and discuss marijuana legalization from the perspectives of law enforcement and chemical dependency counseling.  We are targeting parents of teens for this forum, but all are welcome.  This event is paid for by a grant from the City of Sammamish.  If you cannot make the December 2 “Legal Marijuana and Our Teens” Forum, similar events are being planned for Issaquah High School on January 27 and for Liberty High School on February 6th.

  • Tiger Mountain Breakfasts:  Several people have asked about helping with breakfasts so I have included that signup link too. It is breakfast for approximately forty which can be a little intimidating but if a couple of people or a group team up or it is manageable. The only tricky part is that anyone who assembles food at home would need to have a food handlers permit which takes about an hour of your time and $10:http://www.kingcounty.gov/healthservices/health/ehs/foodsafety/FoodWorker/online.aspx

Best Practice Moment

  • Consider doing either a written survey or a Zoomerang survey of your membership. You might want to do this in early spring to get feedback on the year to date and to plan for the next year.
  • Begin work on putting together your Nominating Committee that will be elected at your next General Membership meeting.  A Council led Nominating Committee training will be held in late January .
  • Please bring a copy of your insurance to the December Council Meeting and give it to our treasurer.
  • If you do not already have a system to pass on materials and information, start one now. Notebooks, evaluation forms, copies of flyers, disks of materials, etc. need to be included.
  • Collection List for November (add to folder you started in September)
    • copy of volunteer appreciation flyer or article in newsletter
    • list of Board meeting dates
    • copy of budget with line item for State Convention highlighted
