President’s To Do List
September 10, 2009
Action Items:
- Council Directory - return responses to Deborah Parsons ASAP. The goal is to have the directories ready to hand out at our October GM meeting.
- Voting Delegate Form – if you’ve misplaced your form a new one can be accessed on our website. These are due to Ellen Dieken, Council secretary by October 8. You may also email her your names.
- Bus Safety - Email Heather Gillette to offer suggestions on how the Council can proceed, or to share relevant information, on the bus safety topic. The Council Board will discuss this at our October 1 meeting. In the meantime, any District transportation questions can be directed to: Jo Porter , Director of Transportation, 837-6330.
- Parent Ed - Keep working on recruiting a Parent Ed chair if you haven’t found someone yet. Please send the name and contact information to Debbie Dodd as she would like to get this group planning for the current year.
- VIS – Each local unit PTA should have a line item in their budget to make a contribution to the levy campaign. Please send this donation soon: VIS, PO Box 1401, Issaquah, WA 98027. Also, let Leigh know if your PTA endorses the three levys – it will help as the campaign gets going.
Information Items:
- Endorsement #1 – “The Issaquah PTSA Council 2.6 endorses the three Issaquah School District levies that will be presented on the February 2010 ballot.” Your local unit should decide whether or not to make the same endorsement. Questions? Leigh Stokes, Council VIS Rep.
- Endorsement #2 – “The Issaquah PTSA Council 2.6 opposes Initiative 1033 on the November 2009 ballot.” Your local unit should decide whether or not to make the same endorsement. Questions? Alison Meryweather, Council Co-Legislative Rep.
- “Funding Schools: Phase II” – presented by the Seattle Council PTSA and Speaker of the House Frank Chopp and open to all. Thursday, September 17, 6:45-8:30pm, Catherine Blaine K-8, Cafeteria (in the Magnolia neighborhood), 2550 34th Ave W, Seattle.
- Volunteers for Issaquah Schools (VIS) – their website is www.visvote.org. The website to advertise online voter registration is http://www.secstate.wa.gov/elections/.
New info:
- Encourage officers to attend one of the four PTA & the Law courses available in Region 2 on October 13, 20(Issaquah), 22 or 24. The PTA & the Law registration form will be mailed to you soon.
- Send calendar information to Chantelle Lusebrink, Issaquah Press Reporter. Sending notice of upcoming events at your school allows the Press to get them into their schedule so that they can be covered.
Best Practice Moment
- Clarification from meeting: award forms were not included in the leadership packets this year. The state saved some money on copies and asks local units to download from the website.
- The following are the details referred to at the GM meeting:
What are Best Practices?
A checklist of items that a local unit should follow to be the best PTA unit they can be.
Why Best Practices?
To guide our PTAs to be child focused, fiscally responsible, practice fiduciary responsibility, knowledgeable, involved, and well trained. Following Best Practices makes earning the Standards of Excellence award easier to apply for and receive.
Where is the Best Practices Checklist?
It is found on the back cover of the Leadership Handbook
