President’s To Do List

October 8, 2009

Action Items:

  • Endorsements – If you have a General Membership meeting coming up don’t forget to take a vote to endorse the 3 levies and to oppose Initiative 1033.
  • Candidate Forum and Meet &Greet – Advertise and attend the School Board Candidate Forum on Monday, October 12, 7pm at PCFC. Advertise the Meet & Greet the School Board Candidates on Tuesday, October 13 at 7:30pm at Liberty High.
  • Listening Tour – Advertise and attend the Education Reform Listening Tour on Thursday, October 15, 7pm at PCFC.
  • Issaquah Press -  Send calendar information to Chantelle Lusebrink, Issaquah Press Reporter. Sending notice of upcoming events at your school allows the Press to get them into their schedule so that they can be covered.
  • Tables/Chairs and Staging – If your PTA would be interested in contributing to purchasing a supply of tables/chairs and maybe a stage that can be shared among the PTAs for their events then contact Deb Smith.  Deb will try to gather information on pricing and working with the District for storage and delivery capabilities.

Information Items:

  • Printing Contract – the confidentiality contract that was created by the Council and approved by the District can be downloaded as a Word document file that you can edit with your PTA’s name and print from the Council website
  • Volunteers for Issaquah Schools (VIS) – their website is www.visvote.org.  The website to advertise online voter registration is http://www.secstate.wa.gov/elections/.  Factual information is posted on the District website
  • Initiative 1033 – Here is the link to the information on the Washington State PTA website.  If your PTSA does not have a meeting coming up for you to take a position the material on the State website can be used by telling your membership that the Washington State Board opposes I-1033. You can also report that the Issaquah PTSA Council opposes I-1033 as we took that vote at our September General Membership Meeting.
  • Hold Harmless Agreement – Information can be found on the District website about volunteers. This includes the Hold Harmless Agreement discussed today at the council meeting. You might want to clarify with your principal what the policy is at your school.
  • Reflections – District submissions are due on November 18 at the District Admin Building between 10am-12pm. Your Reflection chairs should already have this information.

New Items:

  • Connie Fletcher’s retirement – The Issaquah School District is celebrating Connie Fletcher’s retirement from the school board at a reception on Monday, Oct. 19, from 3:30 to 5pm at the Admin Building. Connie is leaving after 16 years of service, but she will continue to advocate for children, having accepted a seat on the Wash State Board of Education. Come send her on her way in style with cake, well wishes, and fun. Please share this invitation with members of your organization.
  • Emailing membership – It is quick and easy to email your membership through the Washington State PTA database. Emails will show up in your members in-box with your name in the “From” spot but will be run through the state system. Please note that this message is sent in plain text. The directions to do this have been attached along with this PTD.

Best Practice Moment:
Following Best Practices does not mean you have to check off everything on the list. Your goal should be to check off more this year than last year and/or improve on those items you do check off. If you do not check off something this year, work with your Board to come up with ways to accomplish it next year.
